Effective September 12, 2026.
When Grid Fails (whengridfails.com) is operated by Tony Pham, an independent publisher based in Vietnam, serving readers in the United States and other international markets. This policy explains how information is handled when you read our guides, use Backup Power Map or contact us.
Information you provide
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and any information or attachments you choose to include. We use them to respond, investigate corrections and manage the request. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details or other sensitive information.
Calculator entries
Backup Power Map calculates in your browser. We do not save or transmit your device names, wattages, operating hours or source notes. Reloading the page clears the plan. If you allow optional analytics, we may record that a calculation succeeded and the number of device groups, but not the values you entered.
Website operation and hosting
Our hosting and security infrastructure may process technical information such as IP address, browser information, requested pages, timestamps and error logs to deliver the website, detect abuse and diagnose faults. The site uses Hostinger hosting and WordPress. Hostinger’s privacy policy describes its own processing. Technical cookies may be used for administrator login and site operation.
Optional audience measurement
We are introducing Google Analytics 4 to understand page visits, calculator use and visits to product sellers. Where this feature is available, we load Analytics only after you select Allow analytics. Rejecting it does not prevent you from reading pages or using the calculator.
Analytics can process cookie identifiers, page and interaction information, device/browser information and general location information. Network requests expose technical connection information to Google. Our event design excludes calculator input values, email text and free-text source notes. We do not use this setup for personalized advertising. Read how Google processes information from partner sites.
Use Analytics preferences on the website to change your choice. Our preference record is stored in your browser for up to 180 days; clearing browser storage removes it. Withdrawing consent stops future Analytics loading after the page reloads; it does not automatically erase data already processed. You can also clear Analytics cookies in your browser.
Google Search Console provides search performance and indexing reports. It does not require us to install a visitor analytics script.
Product links
Product links currently do not earn us commissions. Following an external link takes you to another provider, which may receive referral and technical information and apply its own privacy policy. We do not control that site’s collection. If affiliate relationships are introduced, we will update the relevant disclosures and this policy where needed.
Use, sharing and retention
We use information to operate and secure the site, respond to requests and, with your choice, understand audience activity. Service providers may process information for these purposes. Information may also be disclosed where legally required or necessary to protect rights and prevent abuse. We do not sell the personal information you send us or use it for targeted advertising.
We keep correspondence only as long as needed to handle the request, maintain relevant records and meet legal obligations. Technical records and backups follow the applicable hosting and service settings. Analytics retention follows our configured Google Analytics settings; aggregated reporting may persist separately. Processing may occur in the United States and other countries where providers operate.
Your choices and requests
You can decline optional analytics, clear browser storage, and ask us about access, correction or deletion of information you supplied. Rights and exceptions depend on the law applicable to you. We may need proportionate information to verify a request; do not send identity documents unless we specifically explain why they are necessary.
Contact contact@whengridfails.com with “Privacy request” in the subject. Include enough context to identify the relevant interaction.
Children and updates
This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has sent personal information, contact us so we can review it. We will update this page when our practices change and show the effective date above.
