Choose amp-hours only after converting your RV loads into daily watt-hours.
A 200Ah battery is not automatically the better purchase. The right size depends on usable energy, peak current, charging capacity, available space and trip pattern.

At a nominal 12.8V, 100Ah is about 1,280Wh and 200Ah is about 2,560Wh before system losses. Choose 100Ah for modest loads and frequent recharge; choose 200Ah when daily energy use and overnight reserve justify the added cost and weight.
100Ah vs 200Ah for an RV
List every 12V and inverter load in Wh per day. Then check whether the battery BMS can supply the inverter’s DC current and whether solar, alternator and shore chargers use a lithium-compatible profile.
100Ah class
Lower cost and weight. Good for lights, fans, electronics and efficient 12V refrigeration when daily energy is modest.
200Ah class
Twice the nominal energy, useful for longer stays, larger inverter loads or less predictable solar—but only if recharge capacity keeps up.
Cold weather
Charging LiFePO4 below its permitted temperature can cause damage. Low-temperature cutoff or self-heating is valuable for winter operation.
Account for cable size, fusing, disconnects, ventilation requirements of adjacent equipment and secure mounting. Battery capacity does not correct an undersized electrical system.

Critical installation checks
A 2,000W inverter at 12V can demand well over 150A after losses. Confirm the battery’s continuous discharge rating, conductors, overcurrent protection and connections for the real DC current.
Do not use a lead-acid charging profile by assumption. Confirm charger compatibility and follow the battery manufacturer’s series/parallel limitations.

How long will a 100Ah lithium battery run an RV refrigerator?
Divide usable battery Wh by the refrigerator’s measured daily Wh, then include inverter loss if it is an AC refrigerator.
Is one 200Ah battery better than two 100Ah batteries?
It can simplify connections, while two batteries may offer packaging flexibility. Compare BMS current, redundancy rules, wiring and expansion limits.
Do I need self-heating?
It is valuable if the battery must charge below the manufacturer’s allowed low-temperature charging threshold.
Buy capacity that your charging system can restore
The economical choice is the smallest bank that covers daily energy plus reserve while remaining compatible with inverter current and available recharge.
